SDA RECITAL 2023 : TIME FLIES, our 20th anniversary!

Please read this page carefully, and come back here before each event to stay up-to-date!

HOW TO DRESS:

Me & My Buddy and Baby Ballet Dancers:

  1. How To Dress: Toddler Classes

Female Dancers Ages 3+:

  1. Hair

  2. Tights

  3. Makeup for Littles (Me & My Bear, Kindergarten, Move N Groove, Acro 1)

  4. Full Makeup (All Other Classes)

Male Dancers of All Ages:

  1. How To Dress: Male Dancers

OTHER NOTES:

  • Jewelry and nail polish must be removed for pictures and for our recital performances.

  • Tights can snag - it’s a good idea to have an extra pair in each color packed with your dancer just in case!

  • All grooming items that may be needed for touchups (extra hair ties, hairspray, comb, lipstick) should be packed up and labeled for the big day.

  • Underwear shouldn’t be worn under costumes. (Think of leotards or dance shorts like a swimsuit - there is no need for the extra layer underneath.)

  • Please write your dancer's name in every item they bring to the venue. Lost items without a name will be donated.

  • To avoid dancers being distracted by their ballet shoes coming untied, we suggest tying the elastic string in a bow and using duct tape to tape the strings inside on the top of the shoe! Tan tap shoes will be worn with the elastic only, we won’t use the included shoe strings to avoid mishaps.

RECITAL Weekend 2023

This year we’re excited to bring four short shows to the stage! Thanks for making this day so special for your dancers who work hard in class for 30 weeks preparing for this one big day on stage!

START HERE: Which show will my class perform in?

Each class will rehearse and perform in one pre-determined show. If your dancer takes more than one class, they may participate in more than one show!

Once you know which show(s) your dancer is in, you can find the corresponding details for that rehearsal and that recital below!

Rehearsal: SATURDAY, MAY 13 AT MARIAN HIGH SCHOOL

Marian High School Performing Arts Center | 7400 Military Av, 68134 | Schedules linked below.

Rehearsal A | 8:00-9:00am | Dancer call time, 7:45am | Dancers are dismissed after their last show “A” dance has performed on stage.

Rehearsal B | 9:00-10:20am | Dancer call time, 8:45am | Dancers are dismissed after their last show “B” dance has performed on stage.

Rehearsal C | 10:20-11:40am | Dancer call time, 10:00am | Dancers are dismissed after their last show “C” dance has performed on stage.

Rehearsal D | 11:40am-1:00pm | Dancer call time, 11:25am | Dancers are dismissed after their last show “D” dance has performed on stage.

Notes about our Rehearsal Events:

  • Dancers will rehearse in their regular weekly dancewear, and the correct dance shoes for each class. No need to bring costumes or do hair and makeup this time.

  • Dancers will check in in the lobby at their designated Call Time and will be directed to their dressing room to meet their class StageMom. Dancers will be dismissed from their care after their last dance for that show has practiced on stage.

  • Everything your dancer might need during rehearsal should be with them backstage (clothes, dance shoes, water bottle, etc).

  • All dancers and their belongings must leave the venue after rehearsal. No personal belongings can be left in the dressing rooms between rehearsal and recital since other groups will be using those spaces.

  • NO FOOD OR DRINK IS ALLOWED IN THE DRESSING ROOMS OR THE AUDITORIUM (Water is okay!). This is a venue policy that all SDA members must follow. If your dancer needs to eat or drink, they may do so in the cafeteria or outside.

  • The auditorium will remain open during rehearsal for parents who want to stay and watch!

  • While we try our best to stick to these exact schedules, the actual time on stage may vary slightly.

Recital: SATURDAY, MAY 13 AT MARIAN HIGH SCHOOL

Marian High School Performing Arts Center | 7400 Military Av, 68134

Dancers will perform in the afternoon/evening in full costume, hair and makeup! Times will vary based on which class(es) and which recital(s) your dancer is performing in, but we expect each show to be less than an hour in total length.

Recital A | 2:00pm | Dancer call time, 1:45pm (Digital Program | Printable Program)

Recital B | 3:30pm | Dancer call time, 3:15pm (Digital Program | Printable Program)

Recital C | 5:00pm | Dancer call time, 4:45pm (Digital Program | Printable Program)

Recital D | 6:30pm | Dancer call time, 6:15pm (Digital Program | Printable Program)

General/Audience Recital Notes:

  • The auditorium doors will open 15 minutes before the posted recital start time (above).

  • Guests may meet and congratulate their dancers in the lobby or outside the venue. No guests are allowed in the backstage area at any time.

  • The auditorium will need to be cleared out completely between each event. A new ticket is needed for entry to each event.

  • The lobby will also need to clear out quickly between each event to make room for the next wave of dancers and their fans!

  • No photos or videos allowed inside the auditorium doors. This is for the safety of your dancers, and as a curtesy to the other guests. Please take your photos in the lobby, or outside the venue. Mr Video will be on site recording the events. Order your copy here.

Dancer Recital Notes:

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE:

  • Dancers should have hair, makeup, tights, first costume and first hair accessories on before arriving at the venue.

  • Remember, dancers can wear pink tights OVER tan tights if their ballet dance is first. This saves tons of time backstage!

  • We suggest each dancer brings their dance shoes, extra tights, additional costumes, accessories, grooming items, and water bottle in a bin or basket with their name on it. Having these items in an open bin instead of in a small dance bag helps tremendously during quick changes, and allows even little ones to be more self-sufficient backstage.

  • Double check that all of your costume pieces and personal belongings are labeled with your dancer’s name.

  • Please have dancers eat before they arrive. NO FOOD OR DRINK IS ALLOWED IN THE DRESSING ROOMS OR THE AUDITORIUM (Water is okay!). This is a venue policy that all SDA members must follow. If your dancer needs to eat or drink while they’re on site, they may do so with you in the cafeteria or outside.

CHECKING IN FOR RECITAL:

  • Before heading to your dressing room, we ask dancers to take one more trip to the restroom while in the care of their parent - our StageMoms thank you!

  • Dancers will report to the dressing room to check in directly with their StageMom at the Call Time listed above, and will remain in their care backstage until the end of the show.

  • Everything your dancer might need during recital should be with them backstage (costumes, tights, accessories, dance shoes, water bottle, hair and makeup items, etc). StageMoms will handle any costume changes and hair/makeup touchups during the show, so your dancer needs all of those items on hand.

  • NO parents are allowed backstage after checking in with their StageMom unless specifically instructed by an SDA faculty member. StageMoms will be in charge of hair and makeup touch-ups, as well as any costume changes that are required backstage. If you want to be backstage with your dancer, please join our StageMom crew!

  • Dancers who perform in multiple shows will need a parent to check them out from their StageMom’s care after the first show, and check in with their next StageMom at the next call time. Since dancers perform different dances in each show, we ask that you only bring in the costumes/tights/shoes for that show and keep others in the car. Extra belongings in the dressing room can cause stress and confusion for dancers and their StageMoms.

AFTER THE SHOW:

  • After the last dance of each show, one guardian can pick dancers up from their StageMom backstage.

  • Dressing rooms are for dancers and StageMoms only, please let all other guests know to wait for your dancer to meet them outside or in the lobby.

  • Please exit the building quickly to allow the next wave of dancers, StageMoms, and guests to enter.

Volunteer Opportunities

STAGEMOMS

We’re looking for volunteers to be the designated StageMom for each of our classes backstage. StageMoms facilitate costume changes, makeup touchups, and restroom runs during our Rehearsal and Recital events. Since you’ll be backstage with your dancer during the show, you’ll be the first to give them a big hug after they perform, and you will not need a ticket since you’ll be watching from the wings. Sign Up To Be A StageMom HERE.

StageMoms will receive details and instructions via email in May.

Tickets

All audience members will need a ticket for each recital, including children. This is how we ensure every fan will have a seat. (StageMoms and dancers in that show will not need a ticket since they will be backstage.)

We know many of our dancers are in multiple classes and may be performing in more than one show, so we’ve discounted all of our ticket prices this season!

Tickets were on pre-sale in our market from April 24 - May 7, and our pre-sale is now closed. All pre-sale tickets will be distributed to your dancer during our last week of classes, May 8-11.

All available tickets will be sold at the door for $10.

DVD

MrVideo will be on site recording our events, so you can live in the moment and enjoy the show! Pre-Order your DVD and/or Digital Copy here.
