About Us
Corrie Mettenbrink
Corrie began dancing at the age of 3. In high school she
was a member of the Marian Dance Team, won top awards
at local competitions, and has toured as a backup dancer
for national recording artist Mulberry Lane. Corrie has over
7 years of teaching experience and is a member of the Omaha
Dance Teachers Association. She continues to attend regional
classes and workshops to learn new dance and teaching styles
to bring to STARS. Corrie hopes to continue to make STARS a
fun place for kids to learn and grow as dancers!
Cindy LaPole
Cindy is the director of our Acrobatics Program. She has
taught acrobatics at all skill levels for over 25 years and has
many years of experience as a local gymnastics judge. She
always brings a positive attitude and great ideas to class.
Her patient and positive attitude along with her extensive
dance and gymnastics training make her an invaluable
member of our team.
Mary Ann Sherman
Mary Ann is a former Miss Dance of Mid-America (Dance
Masters of America Organization). She has continuously
trained in dance for over 30 years. Mary Ann's students &
choreography consistently take home top awards at local
and regional competitions including a "Highest Scoring
Overall" trophy from Dance Olympus Regionals in Kansas
City. Mary Ann is committed to provide a learning
environment at STARS that builds self-esteem, teamwork, &
artistic appreciation.
Michaela Sherman-Destache
Michaela has been a key member of STARS since before we
opened our doors. In high school she was a member of
Papillion La-Vista dance team that often took home top
honors and awards. She graduated from Stephens College,
where she earned her BFA in Dance. Since then she has worked
professionally in many productions and was a member of 940
Dance Company in Kansas City. Michaela has continued
teaching classes in her time off and we're so proud to have this
talented dancer back in Omaha and as a part of our team.
Toni Karaus
Toni has been a part of SDA since 2005. She was a member of
our Junior and Senior Lines during high school, and excelled in
Musical Theater, Jazz, and Hip Hop. Now Toni has extended her
love of dance into teaching and is welcomed back this year
as a proud member of our staff. Her creative choreography
makes her an immediate hit with all of our students.
Kate May
Kate May started her training in Omaha area dance studios in
6th grade, but her passion and her talent grew quickly. She was
a member of her studio's competition team and consistently
took home top awards. In high school, she was a member of
her high school dance team where she continued her training.
Her passion for dance is only rivaled by her love of kids. She is
excited to be back in the studio, and we're so excited to
welcome her to our Me and My Bear class!
Jen McFadden
Jen is the newest member at STARS, and she's already made a
great impression on our students. She has been involved with
dance and gymnastics since she was a child. During her time
at Northwest Missouri State she ran the dance company, as
well as a children's tumbling program. We are so excited to
have her bring her teaching experience to SDA!
Amber Straw
Amber is a proud and enthusiastic member of the SDA staff,
and is always a hit with our students. Amber has been dancing
since the age of 5 and loves sharing her experience and
passion as an instructor. Amber is currently studying nursing at
UNMC, which only leaves her time to sub. In any capacity,
we're very pleased to welcome her back for her third year at
STARS!
Assistant Faculty:
Chloe Staley has been dancing at STARS since 2003. Her
passion for dance has grown every year, and she hopes to
become a full-time dance teacher one day. We love to have
her energy and hard-working attitude in class, as well as the
great technique she has developed here at STARS!
Kate Stegman has been dancing at STARS since 2005,
and has assisted whenever possible for the last three years.
Kate loves helping out with the little ones, and they love
having her there. She helps the kids to feel welcome in class,
and our parents love her for that!
